What is a SOA Leadership year?
SOA introduced its Leadership Year program in 2005, with the aim of providing something fun AND worthwhile for matriculants who want to take a year off. We have the resources, time and desire to make it an exceptional year for the students who join us as Leadership Year instructors. What are your Leadership Year responsibilities?
During the Leadership Year, instructors add value to Spirit of Adventure Magaliesburg by leading and facilitating groups throughout their stay. They are thoroughly trained in all aspects of facilitating a course, including setting up and running activities, briefing and reviewing groups, all safety aspects, time management, and communication skills. Do you want to study during your Leadership Year?
Leadership Year instructors are expected to enrol in a distance-learning course of their choice. They are given study-time during the year and allowances are made for study leave when they need to write exams. Gap Year Programs South Africa.
What kind of adventures will you have during your Leadership Year?
Leadership Year instructors are offered the opportunity to experience the following 5 incredible outdoor adventures during their year at Spirit of Adventure.

- Sports/lead rock climbing
How much does it cost?
The cost of the year includes board and lodging throughout the year as well as every expense associated with any trip, including National Park’s entry fees, food and transport etc. While it is wonderful if all Leadership Year instructors can take part in all the trips on offer, we understand that financially it is not always possible, so they can choose not to do one or two of the trips. The cost for the Leadership Year does not include the distance learning course. Instructors are paid a monthly retainer during their employment at SOA, as well as a daily rate for courses worked.
